Typology/elements

The original chapel was dedicated to Our Lady of Good Death or Mercy, and was inaugurated in 1856. It was a square building, and was built at the bottom of the Sant Maurici Section, facing the entry Following the Secularization of Cemeteries Law of 1932, it was decided to demolish it, which began on September 29, 1934, although given the high cost it represented (about 20,000 pesetas) it lasted for many years, until 1939 .
The new chapel, inaugurated in February 1940, occupied the central part of the space used for the observation of corpses and autopsies and shared space with these services until a few years ago. It is a construction built in an Egyptian style very similar to the exterior facade of the cemetery, with many oriental decorative details.
