REQUEST THE LOCATION

Modernist building built in 1898 - 1901 to replace an old orphanage founded in 1609 and has had various public uses: orphanage, women's college, education institute and currently houses the municipal social services.

Located in the closest part of the urban centre, next to the old town and facing Vic street, it becomes one of the facades with more personality of this street.

Typology / Elements

It is part of the historicist Modernism and it seems that it wants to imitate a great building from the Romanesque period. The Romanesque style also observes in the blind arcades that finish the different facades and with the windows of a semi-circular arch.

Rectangular building with two lateral wings and a larger body coinciding with the central section of the façade that contained the access staircase to the second floor. It consists of two floors in the central body and one wing and three in the left wing, third floor that leads to a roof leading to other units. The main facade was 46 meters long, and it shows the internal division of the two floors - very high - thanks to the windows. Both the cornice and the outline of all the openings are highlighted by the work with different material. It has a backyard with facades full of crystals that contribute to give light to the building.
