REQUEST THE LOCATION

The pl. of Spain is the urbanization of an old industrial space that unites the Paseo de Pere III in a stretch built practically after the Spanish Civil War, although there are previous buildings such as the institute of Second Teaching (currently, Inst. Lluís de Peguera). It is characterized by free spaces with typical low-rise buildings typical of mid-20th century urban planning, such as the park that forms the Plaza of Spain. The majority of the buildings on this stretch of Passeig de Pere III are from the late 19th century. XX because they substitute old industrial spaces like the one of the great factory of Metallurgical Textile.

Type / Elements

A set of three buildings that constitute an irregular island with five corners between the streets of Maurici Serrahima, by Josep M. Planes and the pl. of Spain. The building, which overlooks the square has a basement, PB and 1 or 2 floors; The building located in the North is PB + 1 and the rear located in the East is from PB. The complex resolves up to five corners, preferably at right angles, among which stand out the three rectified buildings that make up the South facade on the street of Josep M. Planes. In the North part, between the two buildings there is a courtyard that is used for the entrance and exit of merchandise.

The facades have been resolved with a combination of large stone plates that simulate well-carved ashlars on the corners and crowns, above the cornices and smooth brick walls with rectangular openings without decorative elements. On the main façade, there are the stone carved shields of the Post and Telegraph and, until recently, the coat of arms with the pro-Franco imperial eagle, which is currently located in the Manresa Regional Museum. The interior space behind this facade is one floor but high in height (higher than that of a PB + 1) and is one of the most characteristic elements of the whole. The building has been recently refurbished and modified, so the offices of a P1 that were around this central space have been covered. The openings of this space, that is the one of attention to the public, are formed by three great rectangular windows flat, the one of greater means, in which the main door is gotten up, also solved with stone plates.

The style of the façades and the volumetricity in general are typical of modernist fascist architecture that was applied in official buildings throughout Spain at that time, among which we must point out the monumental set of Nuevos Ministerios a la Castellana of Madrid.
