REQUEST THE LOCATION

The Town Hall building is neoclassical (S.XVIII-XX), although over the years it has been renovated and extended on several occasions. The building is located in the center of the old town, framed within the first walled site (s.XII), presiding over the main square and turning its back to the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu.

Typology / Elements

Public building of monumental character, isolated, under the style of the neoclassical civil architecture. The building develops the traditional scheme of Barcelona residential houses, typical of the 17th and 18th centuries, with a conception of a square floor plan, with an inner central courtyard around which develop the dependencies of the ground floor and two upper floors ; Noble lateral staircase and porticoed vestibule. The noble dependencies are placed on top of this lobby. The facades are symmetrical; The main one, with a five-arched porch - the round point center and the other pointed ones - plus balconies on the noble floor and small windows on the second floor. Important finish in the crown from a molded cornice. Flat treatment on the side facades, with a rhythm of small balconies and windows. In the interior, the Sala de Plens stands out and the skylight is opened on the central courtyard.

In 2008, there were works for enlargement and adaptation, with the construction of new accesses that improve internal circulation in the building and a gateway that overflows the central courtyard. The rear facade was rehabilitated. Other spaces or movable property are also highlighted, such as: the Consistory Hall; The Gallery of Illustrious Manresans, with 21 paintings by several painters (1883-1977); some tombstones commemorating the "Cream of French sealed paper" and the inauguration of the Consistory (1885) and the "Bases de Manresa" (1931). As decorative elements we should mention: the façade shield, the gargoyles of the cornice and the gravestone commemorating the 1809 Franciscan heroes on the left corner of the porch. Construction system: loading walls. Arched vaults on porch. Materials: thread stone and padded edges. With the different interventions, it tends to recover the original spaces.
